-Softwired Event Track&Trace

Softwired Event Track & Trace

Softwired Event Track and Trace [SETT] is based on the principle of capturing 'events' in an organization's logistics and operations processes for both planning and execution. SETT is an application framework that accepts input from different data sources, which constitute events within an organization and enable greater visibility within the targeted process. This allows organizations to map, control and check the required business process and take corrective action where necessary.

Key Performance Indicators[KPI's] are displayed on the SETT dashboard based on predefined objectives [Management by Objectives] making it possible to view the same business process from various points of view. SETT can generate exceptions and process messages in various ways about events in the business process notifying stakeholders involved in the logistics network about such events. Actively notifying participants and identifying events which are defined as exceptions enables quick reaction, improved process quality and greater customer satisfaction.

Softwired iBus//Mobile is a key source of data aggregation providing one main origin of input to SETT. It enables mobile data capture in real time, self described as events within the track and trace logistics process, which are displayed on the SETT dashboard in an efficient and effective manner for decision making process based on key objectives. Because iBus//Mobile and SETT are based on open standards, integration with existing ERP and CRM engines is relatively quick and robust.

SETT provides single point tracking in real time based on Softwired's iBus//Mobile solution. Identifiable events such as parcel and post tracking, specific item location, displayed mapping via GPS, successful and unsuccessful delivery metrics, and overall performance based on predefined criteria are but a few examples of the information captured and displayed by SETT.

SETT Architecture

Overview

The Softwired Event Track and Trace solution is a flexible event driven application framework that incorporates the Softwired iBus//Mobile data system to capture real time data for business critical decision making purposes.

Key elements of the Softwired Event Track and Trace solution architecture are:

  1. Softwired Event Track and Trace dashboard provides reports based on KPI's that allow administrators and management to respond in real time to events which are identified as exceptions and take corrective action which ensures quick reaction, improved process quality and greater customer satisfaction.
  2. Softwired Mobile Data System provides essential components that enable Java, .NETCF, Android and Linux, applications to be deployed to mobile users and connect these with any standards based JEE back end application server.
  3. Softwired iBus//Mobile Gateway is robust Software that acts as the centralized link between any mobile device, enterprise applications and wireless networks. When accessing JEE and .NET connected applications on the Softwired platform, data flows centrally through the Softwired gateway server.
  4. Database, Applications including CRM, ERP and BI applications Servers interact with and are data aggregators for the Softwired Event Track and Trace application using a variety of flexible, standards based protocols and languages including SOAP, HTTP, XML and HTML. The SETT application that communicates with back end systems is written primarily in Java.
  5. Mobile devices are integrated wireless voice and data devices that contain the Softwired mobile libraries and are optimized for operation in wireless networks to work with the Softwired Enterprise Solution.
An example of events and reports in a Track and Trace scenario included the following:
  1. Logging by the employee at the start of the process on the mobile device
  2. Generation of a list of items for delivery either by scan or RFID
  3. GPS tracking in real time of the status of the item in the delivery process
  4. Mapping of the route by GPS 'event' points for review purposes
  5. Delivery of the item to nominated destination recording time of delivery and signature capture
  6. Generating a success notification of the delivery event by SMS, email or other means
  7. Providing daily summary of delivery events displayed in chart graphical format
  8. Notifying exceptions to various stakeholders in the organization of such events
  9. Logging off by the employee at the close of the daily process/delivery activity.
  10. [Additional items may be added based on organizational requirements].
